My favorite thing to play as a child had to be house! Not just any “house”, but it seems back then we were either safer or not as cautious and aware…I was sent outside for hours on end and left to my own creativity. I lived in an apartment, not the country, and yet I still remember using bushes shaped perfectly for “houses”, rain puddles for creeks and lakes, rocks shaped perfectly like bowls for “eating”…I also recall the special times when we did play “house” in areas more welcoming; like my Grandmother’s house on the hill where we’d hide amongst the fruit trees and have fruit for our meals; or my Mom’s creek-side house where we’d literally hop a creek to have an island in the center of said creek as our house. So many fond memories, and yet it is also sad for me, as in today’s world, my children have not had the freedom I had to experience such joys.
um, could Amanda be any more charming? I think not. She’s practically my hero.
